About Adelanto

Adelanto is city located in San Bernardino County.  Adelanto covers roughly fifty two square miles.  It is home to roughly 40,000 residents.  Adelanto lies within zip code 92301. Adelanto’s origins trace back to 1915 when E. H. Richardson, the inventor of what would become the Hotpoint Electric Iron, founded the city. After selling his patent, he purchased land for $75,000 with a vision to create one of Southern California’s earliest master planned communities. Richardson divided the land into one-acre plots, intending to sell them to World War I veterans suffering from respiratory ailments and build a respiratory hospital. While his dream wasn’t fully realized, it laid the groundwork for the present-day City of Adelanto. The city was once known for its vast orchards of deciduous fruit trees, renowned across California for fresh fruit and cider production. However, during the Great Depression, these orchards were replaced by poultry ranches. When World War II erupted in 1941, the Victorville Army Air Field was established within Adelanto’s sphere of influence. In September 1950, it was named George Air Force Base in honor of Brigadier General Harold H. George. Adelanto operated as a “community services district” until 1970, when it officially incorporated as a city, becoming San Bernardino County’s smallest city. In November 1992, the city achieved charter city status.
